White Gloves in mid summer
Unusually hot and sticky summer continues this month in New Zealand.
Not just high temperature - but unbearable humidity day and night compared
to the normal summer climate, is this one is somehow related to the World
climate change? Hope not!
7'Oclock in the morning, polished up cars start to come in to the field at Ellerslie Racecourse
A large oak tree provides a large area of shade, and here, people with white gloves walk around shiny, polished classic and vintage cars. Judges touch behind tires, some touch the bottom of the engines, and some open up 40 year old manual books.

It is the Intermarque Concours d'Elegance. What does that mean? Well,
you make an old rusted out, unwanted car into the same condition as if it had just
left the showroom many many years ago. The enthusiast must dedicate his/her time
and money to make the car perfect in every aspect, which is a big commitment.
Original tools have to be there in pristine condition, every chrome piece must be
like a mirror, seats as good as though no one has ever sat in it, and body work
with not a single fingerprint. Spending 5 to 10 years restoring a car is a common
story in this world. Spending 15, 20, 30 years is not a rare occurrence.
|Serious checking continues under the body, behind the bonnet and screws for more than half an hour
Judge's head stuck under the bonnet, they just want to find faults, but it is not easy for them
Some are valued at more than a million dollars. Because there are no longer parts available,
they have to make one from scratch, thus adding to the cost. According to the
statistics, New Zealand has more than 12,000 classic cars registered, and this
figure does not include thousands more cars under restoration program or sitting
idle covered in rust in barns and warehouses. This figure makes New Zealand
a champion of classic car ownership per capita.
What a Lancia Stratos! and what a vintage car! Classic car with a classic friends is the best match
We met a guy who restored his Lancia Stratos, spending the last 25 years
restoring it. No wonder why the owner was so happy standing by it.
This 1980 Porsche Carrera GT is a very rare car with factory right hand drive
This classic car show has 38 years of history. The event covers a large area,
there are more than 700 cars on display, some brand new and some very old like
100 years old. All cars are organized in groups by car clubs and there are more
than 70 car clubs on display.
More than 700 cars are spread out so there is no congestion
Well, we enjoyed watching them and hope one day we will own some of them! If you want to wear white gloves during film production with classic cars, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
It is a dream to be surrounded by those classic and vintage cars in such pristine
How many countries can offer this kind of event, with a friendly atmosphere?
Well we know it ... it is only in New Zealand!!
